TVB’s “The Voice” highlights a temporary shortage in HK Music Industry

[Caption] Prudence Liew is the host for “The Voice”, but the audience felt that she was trying to crack jokes by the things she said, but it was not funny at all…

[Caption] Justin Lo, Edmond Leung, William So and Kary Ng were on “The Voice” as guest judges. TVB wanted to attract higher ratings by bring more Stars on the show, but because there were too many Stars, the audience felt that the camera focused too much on the Stars and not enough on the contestants.

American Idol has become one of the greatest hits around the world and now even TVB and ATV joined in the battlefield. TVB’s “The Voice” and ATV’s “Asian Millionstar” have both broadcast 3 episodes each. With the increasing heated battle between the two shows, both shows present similar advantages and disadvantages. Audience said that the style was consistent, using so many Mandarin songs, Hong Kong stars are snatching the limelight from the contestants and highlighting that the Hong Kong Music Industry seem to be in a temporary shortage.

Strange Phenomenon: Cantonese Songs are isolated

Although the shows are held in Hong Kong, but not many contestants sang Cantonese songs, the majority of them sang Mandarin songs. The Cantonese songs sang were revolving around the same ones, such as Beyond and Jacky Cheung’s old songs. Mandarin songs were used 80% of the time. The most popular Mandarin songs used were songs by Jay Chou and David Tao. Criticisms are often made to the contestants that they do not have their own style. The majority of Cantonese songs sang were mostly old songs, not many songs from the recent years. Is the Hong Kong Music Industry today really that bad, that even their own people aren’t supporting?

I hardy watch Chinese programs in Toronto but “The Voice” caught my attention. Most disappointedly with one of the recent judges – “Chan” whatever. She talks too much and I checked with a few friends from Hong Kong and learned that the Chan wasn’t even top singer in the Hong Kong music industry. In particular, there are three professional music producers on the judging panel and what the fuck made her think she knows the best. Talk about personal feeling towards a song, everyone is different and should have their own style in feeling the song.

I truly hope that this msg will forward to the TVB Producer of the Voice and immediately remove the Chan from the judging panel. She is fucking talking too much – too much bull shits. She is rude and non-professional. Hey Chan, did you ever listen to the North Amer top singers? Many of us don’t think that you are even qualified to be on the panel.

  4. Elaine V says:

BTW – we fully respect the other three professional music producers opinions and comments.

    Remove the Chan woman immediate.

i am really sorry to admit that i am from HK but the music industry sucks here. i would love to immigrate to UK <3

the judges are crap. i think if any hk singers (most) go onto talent shows in uk or us, they will be voted off.. yea cuz most suck.

btw i think that chan women is trying to act like the meanest judge just like simon cowell on x factor.. but look, she doesnt have any talent.
